Indian badminton star Jwala Gutta got trolled on social media by being labelled as 'anti national' owing to her mother hailing from China. The badminton doubles star, whose mother Yelan was born in Tianjin, gave a befitting reply to those who questioned her patriotism towards the motherland.
Due to the long-standing stand off between the Indian Army and China’s People Liberation Army (PLA) at Doklam, a few internet trolls also tried to link the matter to Jwala’s mother’s roots and even attacked her sister Insi on Twitter. “Is it because ur mother is from China that’s y u oppose Modi every time?” , she was asked. Jwala was the one to give a fitting reply.
Jwala has a Chinese-Indian lineage, with her mother Yelan, born in Tianjin, China marrying Kranti Gutta from Hyderabad. With Chinese incursions on Indian borders being the hot topic these days, the user tried to get leverage with his post, but Jwala is not one known to back down and shot back warning the user to think twice before he talks.
A person with Twitter handle ‘Xerox Boy’ wrote to Jwala, “did u ever think being a chinese citizen would have given u more opportunities in badminton? any regrets being Indian?”. The badminton star replied saying she is a proud Indian.
Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan was attacked on all big social media platforms Facebook, Twitter and Instagram when he posted a picture with his wife in a burqa, but her hands emerging out of it, and her nail polish attracted the unwanted attention.
