The National Sports Day is celebrated to mark the birth anniversary of the legendary Wizard of Hockey – Major Dhyan Chand Singh – on 29 August. Dhyan Chand won Golds for India in 1928, 1934 and 1936 Olympics and had scored over 400 goals in a 22-year long career.
The special day gains more importance this time as the Indian contingent is giving their heart and soul to bring medals for India at the ongoing 2018 Asian Games at Jakarta and Palembang in Indonesia, and till now they have had a prolific campaign bagging a total of 50 medals.
Twitterati commemorated the day with its own special style as sportspersons, politicians and public figures stormed the micro-blogging platform with tributes to arguably the greatest hockey player of all time and mark the special occasion of the National Sports Day.
