Current World no. 6 PV Sindhu has defeated Japanese shuttler Nozomi Okuhara 20-22, 21-18, 21-18 to advance to the semi-final of All England Championships on Friday.

The result is massive for India as Sindhu is the lone player remaining in the women’s single category of All England Championships after Saina Nehwal and others crashed out of the tournament earlier.

Sindhu who was second-seeded was against Okuhara who was seventh-seeded. Last year Sindhu was defeated in the quarter-finals but this time she turned her way around.

The match was a nail-biting one, with both of the players giving everything to win each and every point. It was a tightly fought contest but Sindhu’s experience was extremely valuable as she completed another comeback and won the final game 21-18.

PV Sindhu had lost to the Japanese in straight games in Japan Open Super Series. No Indian woman has even won the All England Championships title and Sindhu has the chance to break that trend.
