Rio Games: Mary Kom denied wild card entry

Five times world champion and Olympic bronze medallist Mary Kom who failed to secure a berth in Rio Olympics will not be able to participate in the games as the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has denied her the wildcard entry for the mega tournament.

The AIBA ad-hoc committee chairman, Kishen Narsi, confirmed the news and said Mary Kom misses out on Rio Olympics, ironically because India had eight or more boxers in the previous two Games.

Under IOC's latest ruling the tripartite places will be available only to countries that had less than eight participants in the last two Olympics London 2012, Beijing 2008.

This includes boxers, coaches and support staff. The five times champion could not book an Olympic ticket after losing in the second round of the World Championships last month.
