Bhavani Devi broke the fencing record of 44 years and won the country's first gold medal for fencing in the Commonwealth Championships. She is the only Indian to feature in the top 50 fencing ranking players in the world. She often borrowed swords from other players while going for tournaments after she did not have the money to buy electric swords as they were expensive. According to the official auction website, there are a total 1300 items on the block, in which C A Bhavani Devi's sword has a base price of Rs 61,00,000. The auction of gifts received by Prime Minister Narendra Modi was started on PM Mementos. The prime minister had also appealed to the people to participate in the e-auction of gifts and souvenirs received by him and said that the money coming from this will be accepted and will be spent on Namami Gange Mission. When PM Modi specially invited the Indian team for Tokyo Olympics on 16 August, Bhavani met the prime minister.
While tweeting her Mann Ki Baat on social media, Bhavani remembered her father, and said 'What else would you like? I lost my father recently, now the words and blessings of the Prime Minister have reminded me of him. The same PM Modi said, "The flag of India is not easy to qualify in a sport like fencing for the first time, you have introduced a new sport to the country and have made us all proud."
