Virat Kohli – World’s No.1 batsman in both ODI and Test cricket, as per the ICC rankings, has been putting scintillating performances consistently since the last couple of years. The 29-year-old had missed out on the top sports award following consecutive nominations in 2016 and 2017. The swashbuckling batsman smashed 6147 runs in 71 Tests with 23 centuries and 9779 runs in 211 ODIs, including 35 tons.
Second awardee Mirabai Chanu was selected for the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna after she clinched the Gold medal in the 48kg category at the World Championship in 2017 and 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games. However, she missed the Asian Games following an injury.
