French Open 2017 Mixed Doubles: Rohan Bopanna-Dabrowski beat Groenefeld-Farah pair 2-6, 6-2, 12-10 to clinch title

Rohan Bopanna and his Canadian partner Gabriela Dabrowski won the mixed doubles event at the French Open by defeating the German-Colombian opponents Anna-Lena Groenefeld and Robert Farah in the title clash on Thursday.

Rohan Bopanna and his Canadian partner Gabriela Dabrowski won the mixed doubles event at the French Open by defeating the German-Colombian opponents Anna-Lena Groenefeld and Robert Farah in the title clash on Thursday. The Indo-Canadian pair downed Groenefeld and Farah 2-6, 6-2, 12-10 on Philippe-Chatrier Court.

Bopanna and Dabrowski had beaten third seed Andrea Hlavackova and Roger Vasselin in straight sets to reach the summit clash.

The French Open mixed double title is Bopanna’s maiden Grand Slam crown. Bopanna has become only the fourth Indian to win a Grand Slam title after the legendary Leander Paes, Mahesh Bhupathi and Sania Mirza.

Bopanna made it to the final of a Grand Slam tournament after a gap of seven years. He had reached the US Open mixed doubles finals with Pakistani partner Aisam-ul-haq Qureshi entered the title clash of the US Open. The 16th seeds had then lost to legendary duo of Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan in the final.

Rohan Bopanna has also become the fourth Indian to win a mixed doubles crown at the French Open. Mahesh Bhupathi was the first Indian to win the French Open mixed doubles title with Japan’s Rika Hiraki in 1997. Bhupathi repeated his feat with a win in 2012 with fellow Indian Sania Mirza.

Meanwhile, Indian tennis stalwart Leander Paes won the French Open title on the red clay with 'Swiss Miss' Martina Hingis in 2016.
