The tennis fans across the globe could not have asked for a better final in the Ladies Singles of 2017 Australian Open. It is all set to be a blockbuster of a grand finale in the Women's singles with the Williams sisters locking horns against each other in the title clash at the Rod Laver arena on Saturday.

Serena Williams is on the cusp of creating history as the Australian Open title would help her surpass Steffi Graf as the leading Grand Slam Singles title winner in the Open Era. The younger of the Williams sister goes into the title clash levelled with Steffi Graf at 22 singles Grand Slams.

Serena has won the Australian Open title for a record 6 times in the Open Era and would like to add one more to her kitty. Meanwhile Venus would be hungry to lift the title as she last won a Grand Slam way back in 2008 at Wimbledon.

Road to finals:

Serena has been the player to beat at the Slams over the past few years. Serena has been all conquering in this tournament too. She decimated her early round opponents before overcoming a stiff challenge from B. Strýcová in the fourth round. Serena brushed past J Konta in the quarters and trounced M. Lučić-Baroni in the semis to storm into the finals.

Meanwhile, Venus looked in very good form all through the tournament and registered comprehensive victories over her opponents before winning a tough encounter against A. Pavlyuchenkova in the quarters. Venus won a thrilling three-set semifinal against rising American tennis star Coco Vandeweghe in the semis to book her spot in the finals with Serena.

Playing Style - Serena and Williams have pretty much the same style of playing. Both have potent groundstrokes and can hit winners to any part of the court. Both of them are immensely athletic and move swiftly across the court. Venus is considered one of the best servers in the women's game while Serena can whip returns to the best of serves. So it is expected to be a battle of attrition with a slug-fest on the cards from the baseline from both sisters.

Head to Head Record - The two sisters have had some memorable clashes over the years in Grand Slams and another premier tournament. It was the older Venus who started dominating their encounters early on in their careers. However, over the years, Serena matured into a complete player and has won most of their battles in recent past. Serena leads the all-time head to head 16-11.

In Grand Slam matches, Serena again holds the edge over Venus. In the 8 Grand Slam finals contested by the two sisters, Serena has been on the winning side 6 times with 2 going to Venus. So going by past history, Serena clearly goes in as the overwhelming favourite going into the finals but it would come down to who plays better on the day and who soaks the pressure to seize the crucial moments of the match.
