American rising star Coco Vandeweghe stormed into her first grand slam semi-final with an all-conquering performance to defeat French Open champion Garbine Muguruza 6-4, 6-0 in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open.

American rising tennis star Coco Vandeweghe stormed into her first grand slam semi-final with an all-conquering performance to defeat French Open champion Garbine Muguruza 6-4, 6-0 in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open.

Coco Vandeweghe is set to face fellow American Venus Williams in the semifinals.

The 25-year-old American grabbed all the media attention after knocking out world No 1 Angelique Kerber in the fourth round.

Vandeweghe just took 56 minutes to wrap up the opening set before blanking Muguruza 6-0 in the second set to clinch the match and her semi-final spot just 27 minutes later.
