On the other hand, third seed and 2015 French Open champion Stanislas Wawrinka displayed majestic form as he dismantled Marin Cilic 6-3 6-3 6-1 to book a semi-final meeting with Andy Murray at Roland Garros.
It will be Wawrinka's ninth appearance in a Grand Slam semi-final and his third straight appearance in the last four in Paris as he remains on course for a fourth major following his French Open, 2014 Australian Open and 2016 US Open successes.
Whereas the first semi-final will be between Murray and Wawrinka, the other will be played between Spanish tennis ace Rafael Nadal and Austrian Dominic Theim who won their respective encounters on Wednesday.
