French Open toughest to win: Sania

Indian tennis star Sania Mirza today said that French Open is going to be the “toughest” for her and Swiss partner Martina Hingis as clay court is not among their favourite surfaces.

Having won three Grand Slam titles in a row, Sania and Martina would hope to maintain the winning streak at the French Open, to be held in May.

“I hope that the chances are bright, considering we won the last three grand slams. But it is going to be our toughest Grand Slam to win. It is not our favourite surface. But we are doing whatever we can and hopefully we can get that ‘Santina’ slam, so to say,” she told reporters here.

The Indo-Swiss pair’s 41-match winning streak came to a halt after the world number one women’s doubles combination went down fighting in the quarterfinals of the Qatar Open last week to Russian duo of Elena Vesnina and Daria Kasatkina.

Sania, who was speaking at an event organised by Telangana Tourism, said Hingis, who plays for Hyderabad in Vijay Amritraj-promoted Champions Tennis League, likes Hyderabad and Indian food very much, with biryani being her favourite.
