Top seed Rafael Nadal on Friday defeated Argentina’s Juan Martin Del Potro in the semis to progress to the men’s final scheduled on Sunday. Nadal overcame his Argentine opponent in four sets 4-6, 6-0, 6-3, 6-2.
Nadal will now be taking on Kevin Anderson from South Africa in the finals. Anderson had beaten Spain's 12th seed P Carreno Busta 4-6, 7-5, 6-3, 6-4 in the other semis. At 31, it will be his first grand slam final.
Talking about Nadal, he is a two-time US Open winner (2010 and 2013) and shall be bidding to lift his 3rd title at Flushing Meadows. The Spaniard with 15 Grand Slams titles is second on the all-time list for most singles titles at majors behind Roger Federer.
