Muguruza defeated Williams in straight sets with the scoreline reading 7-5, 6-0. Muguruza added a second grand slam to her kitty as she had clinched the French Open title in 2016.

Wimbledon 2017: Garbine Muguruza wins maiden women's singles title

Spain's Garbine Muguruza won her maiden singles crown at Wimbledon after she defeated 5 times champion Venus Williams in the title clash of the ladies singles title on the Centre court at all England Tennis and Croquet Club on Saturday.

The 14th seed Spaniard defeated 10th seed Williams in straight sets with the scoreline reading 7-5, 6-0. Muguruza added a second grand slam to her kitty as she had clinched the French Open title in 2016.

Afte the win she said, "two years ago I lost to Serena and she told me maybe one day I would win. Here I am!"

Muguruza had made it to the ladies singles finals in 2015, only losing out to Serena Williams in the title clash.  She became the first female Spanish player to win the singles title at Wimbledon since Conchita Martinez, her coach, in 1994.
