Spain's fourteen seed Garbine Muguruza stunned top seed Angelique Kerber 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 in a gripping fourth round clash to set up a quarter-final against Russia's Svetlana Kuznetsova in the Wimbledon Championships on Monday.

Kerber is set to lose her number one ranking as a result of her round of sixteen loss to Muguruza. Svetlana Kuznetsova sailed into the quaterfinals after beating Poland's A. Radwańska in her fourth round clash.

Romanian Simona Halep will become the number one women's player in the world if she reaches the semi-final stage. Should Halep not advance so far, Karolina Pliskova will become the new rankings leader on Monday.

The French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko reached the quarter-finals for the first time with a dramatic victory against Ukrainian fourth seed Elina Svitolina. The 20-year-old Latvian will face American Venus Williams in the last eight after the American ousted the No27 seed Ana Konjuh.
