Seven-times Wimbledon champion Roger Federer shall open his bid to win a record eight title with a first round clash against 84th-ranked Alexandr Dolgopolov of Ukraine at the All England Club at Wimbledon on Tuesday.
Federer who is tied with modern tennis great like Pete Sampras for the most number of Wimbledon titles is aiming to go one past the American tennis legend's seven titles. Federer has been very successful at the grass on Wimbledon winning seven titles besides ending up as runner-up on three other occasions.
Federer had given the clay court season a complete miss to prepare hard for the Wimbledon. The Swiss ace had an excellent build up to the Wimbledon tournament winning the Gerry Weber tournament at Halle for a record ninth time.
Meanwhile, Serbia’s Novak Djokovic shall play his tournament opener against Slovakia's Martin Klizan. The Serb, a three-time Wimbledon champion, is seeded second but has dropped to fourth in the world rankings and his slump can be traced back to last year's Championships where he suffered a shock third-round defeat to Sam Querrey.
