Indian tennis queen Sania Mirza and her doubles partner Belgian partner Kirsten Flipkens started off their Wimbledon campaign on a promising note by registering a straight-set win over Naomi Osaka and Shuai Zhang in the opening round at the All England Club on Wednesday.
Sania and Flipkens outplayed the Japanese-Chinese pairing of Naomi Osaka and Shuai Zhang 6-4, 6-3 in an hour and 12 minutes on Court 11.Earlier on Wednesday, all India pairing of Purav Raja and Divij Sharan also advanced to the men’s doubles second round after a hard-fought four-set opener.
The 13th seeds will now take on the winners of the match between Naomi Broady-Heather Watson and Katie Dunne-Harriet Dart in the second round.
