In a major upset in Wimbledon 2017, fifth seed Stan Wawrinka was knocked out by 49th ranked Daniil Medvedev in first round of the grand slam.

Battling knee injury, the three-time grand slam champion Wawrinka lost to Medvedev 6-4 3-6 6-4 6-1 on Centre Court.

Wawrinka’s dream of completing career grand slam by winning on grass still remains distant. He is yet to solve the puzzle called Wimbledon despite coming victorious in the Opens of France, Australia and the US in the past.
