New Delhi:

When Stephanie McMahon, the Chief Brand Officer of the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) made the announcement of a Pay-Per-View exclusively for women wrestlers called Evolution, it was indeed a turning point.

The event, which was held on October 28, created several moments of history. There was a last-woman standing match, the first time ever in women’s wrestling, a battle royale to determine the next title contender, a return of a legendary women’s pair and a glimpse of the dominance of ‘Rowdy’ Ronda Rousey.

Last woman standing match

The WWE universe and the fans are well versed with a last man standing match, in which it would be no disqualification rules and that the only way victory would be assured was that one opponent could not get up until the count of 10.

The last woman standing match between SmackDown champion Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair provided some jaw-dropping moments and made it a match-of-the-year contender. Lynch came out on top after a 28-minute contest which has the potential to be dubbed the best main roster women's match in WWE history.

Nia Jax wins Battle Royale

Nia Jax, who has established herself as one of the best woman wrestlers in the modern ear, overcame 19 other competitors, finally eliminating Ember Moon - who looked strong throughout - to claim a title chance.

Stratus, Lita turn the clock back

It was fitting that Trish Stratus and Lita, two of the dominant athletes who blazed the path for other women wrestlers in the WWE, would start the Pay Per View. Lita and Stratus secured an amazing win over Mickie James and Alicia Fox. In fact, this was the first time in 12 years that Lita was facing James. In the 2006 Survivor series, Lita was defeated by James for the Women’s Championship which proved to be Lita’s last match.

Rousing Rousey dominance

Ronda Rousey has shown that she is the dominant force in the WWE as she retained her Raw crown, forcing Nikki Bella to tap out to her armbar and secure a magnificent win. On several occasions, Brie Bella, Nikki’s twin sister, helped her sibling get into a strong position. Rousey eventually prevailed but was forced to dig very deep. She will now face Nia Jax, who won the Battle Royale.

The performances at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, in Uniondale, New York, showed that women’s wrestling has matched the men when it comes to impact.
