New app to avoid landslides and obstructions in Sikkim and Darjeeling

To help the people in hilly areas, a team of engineering students from the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Sikkim has designed a community-based app that helps people to avoid road with landslides and various obstructions.

The app was launched on April 14 by Sikkim Governor Shriniwas Patil, and named 'Companion'. It is currently available for Sikkim and Darjeeling in West Bengal.

Not only the app tells the landslides and obstructions, it helps in searching amenities like restaurants, hotels, ATMs, restrooms, vehicle repair shops along the route.

The students joined hands with Border Roads Organisation Sikkim and the Department of Roads and Bridges, Sikkim, for road traffic and landslide verifications.
