US woman's Apple iPhone 4S catches fire, sues company for whopping $75,000

An insurance company State Farm and a woman from United States are suing Apple for $75,000 on grounds of selling a ‘defective’ iPhone 4S in 2014 that caused a fire in her home, according to US media reports.

An insurance company State Farm and a woman from United States are suing Apple for $75,000 on grounds of selling a  ‘defective’ iPhone 4S in 2014 that caused a fire in her home, according to US media reports.

The woman, Xai Thao, a resident of Wisconsin state in the United States, and the insurance company jointly filed as complaint against iPhone on Thursday.

The fire incident broke off last year in April but the lawsuit was filed recently.

She has reportedly said her iPhone 4S had a defective battery that had led to a fire.

According to the lawsuit, in preliminary investigations it has been found that a significant localized heating event in the battery area of the iPhone.

The lawsuit also states that the the phone  had “remnants of internal shorting, indicating an internal failure of the iPhone’s battery caused the fire.”

Moneycontrol.com reports that the lawsuit also states that the iPhone was “in a defective and unreasonably dangerous condition” when the woman bought it in 2014.
