New Delhi:

After Reliance Jio announced to enter the wired broadband segment, another telecom giant Airtel is also looking to follow the same path soon. Some reports suggest that Airtel to offer digital entertainment and fast broadband services, similar to Jio Fiber upcoming offerings.

Airtel’s Android Set-Top-Box (STB) to target mid-to-top end post-paid mobile users, home broadband and DTH customers treating them as unified home users.

The telecom company may also bundle a free HD LED TV along with the set-top-box to counter Jio Fiber home broadband which will begin to offer packs starting from Rs 700 per month.

Recently, RIL chairman and MD Mukesh Ambani announced that Reliance Jio Fiber services will be launched on September 5, 2019. It is to be noted that on September 5, Jio will also celebrate its third anniversary.

The basic plan for Jio fiber services will start at 100 Mbps and will go up to 1 Gbps at the price ranging between Rs 700 to Rs 10,000 per month. Notably, the cheapest data plan is priced at Rs 700 a month and has speeds up to 100Mbps. On the other hand, the top-end plan comes at Rs 10,000 a month which also provides access to broadband, Jio HomeTV and Jio's IoT.

Speaking at the company's 42nd annual general meeting on August 12, Mukesh Ambani further said that voice calls from home will be free forever. The plan also features an unlimited international calling pack at Rs 500 per month, for fixed line services.
