Xiaomi is all set to launch Redmi 5 in India on Wednesday following the launch of Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 Pro last month. The sale will be exclusively through Amazon India. Xiaomi has been posting teasers about the new upcoming smartphone using the hashtag CompactPowerhouse.

Redmi 5 will be Xiaomi’s successor to last year’s Redmi 4, which was launched at a starting price of Rs 6,999 going up all the way to Rs 10,999. The Redmi 4 was introduced in three RAM and storage variants: 2GB/16GB, 3GB/32GB and 4GB/64GB for a price of Rs 6,999, Rs 8,999 and Rs 10,999 respectively.

Xiaomi launched the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus in December in China. The 2GB RAM of the Redmi 5 is priced at CNY 799 (approximately Rs 8,100), the 3GB RAM variant is priced at CNY 899 (approximately Rs 9,100) while the 4GB RAM variant is priced at CNY 1,299 (approximately Rs 13,200).
As for its specifications, Redmi 5 sports a 5.7-inch HD+ display with an aspect ratio of 18:9, a Snapdragon 450 processor, a 12MP rear camera, a 5MP front camera, and a 3300mAh battery. It runs on Android 7.1 Nougat with MIUI 9 atop. It comes in three storage variants: 2GB RAM and 16GB storage, 3GB RAM and 32GB storage, and 4GB RAM and 32GB storage. These variants are priced at RMB 799 (or approx Rs 8196), RMB 899 (or approx Rs 9221) and RMB 1099 (or approx Rs 11,273), respectively. A microSD has been thrown in to expand the internal storage.
On the other hand, the Redmi 5 Plus sports a 5.99-inch full-HD+ display with a 1080x2160 pixels resolution. It is powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 625 processor along with 3Gg and 4GB RAM options. It will also come equipped with a 12MP rear camera along with a 5MP front-facing camera. Connectivity options include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS and a 3.5mm headphone jack. A 4000mAh battery completes the package.
