Apple CEO Tim Cook on Monday announced his company’s partnership with Malala Yousafzai and her non-profit organisation, The Malala Fund, to extend education funding programs to India and Latin America.
The Malala Fund has an initial goal to extend secondary education opportunities for at least 10,000 girls with Apple’s support as the fund’s first Laureate Partner.
This partnership also means that the Malala Fund will be able to double the number of its grants which it distributes through Gulmakai Network. The Gulmakai Network extends help to local educators and activists in developing countries that deal with different threats to girls’ education like poverty, war, gender discrimination, among others.
The Gulmakai Network currently holds programs in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Lebanon, Turkey and Nigeria.
Malala Yousafzai and Tim Cook took to Twitter to share this news with their followers and audience.
Apple is proud to support the courageous, visionary @Malala in advancing every girl’s right to 12 years of free, safe, quality education. Together we’re committing to expand the reach of @MalalaFund and provide secondary school opportunities to girls around the world. https://t.co/K9I64tJTWh

Malala, who is a survivor of a Taliban assassination when she was 15, co-founded the Malala Fund with her father. The Fund currently supports 12 years of free, safe and quality education to every girl. Yousafzai is the youngest ever Nobel Laureate.
