If you are an iPhone user and are having an iphone or ipad which has been introduced in 2012 or before, a software update is must to rectify the GPS issue. The iphone users are finding glitches in pertaining GPS i.e. correct timing, location and date are not being reported in many iPhones. Apple looks forward to resolve the problem which is referred as the 'Week Number Rollover' issue. The problem is caused by GPS systems recording the passage of weeks as a 10-bit figure. When the phone hits a running time of 1,024 weeks, the phones are pushed to reset their count.

When GPS software was created in 1970s, computers had nominal processing power and that’s why the date was coded in 10 bits. It roughly means that the system can display dates to certain time before it runs out of combinations and requires a reset.

The newer phones are not having this problem and Apple is extending its updates to older versions to resolve the issue. The software update for iPhone 5 will appear as iOS 10.3.4 while for iPhone 4S, it will be iOS 9.3.6.

If one does not update the older IOS device, the user might not be able to receive accurate GPS position and apps that require correct time and date will not be functional.

Along with this, Apple has brought software updates i.e. IOS 12.4 for new iPhone and iPad models.

The user can check the availability of updates by going to Settings-General-Software Update. Apples has issued recommended to update the software before November 3 to avoid any further snag.

iPhone continues to be Apple’s marquee attraction. The next version of its iPhone operating software, iOS 13, manages to offer both privacy features and an aesthetic “dark mode” for the screen, a feature already available on Macs.
