Facebook, Instagram go down in India, US, Europe; netizens wonder why

Social media platforms -- Facebook and Instagram -- are reportedly down across the globe, including India, with many users wondering the reason behind it. A message showing to those affected suggests the problem is part of scheduled maintenance. Facebook's own developer page, however, makes no reference to those issues. "Facebook will be back soon," the message showing to users reads.

"Facebook is down for required maintenance right now, but you should be able to get back on within a few minutes. In the meantime, read more about why you're seeing this message. Thanks for your patience as we improve the site."

According to  downdetector.com, Facebook users in the United States are reporting issues with posting, live streaming features and a slew of other technical difficulties.
