Social media platform, Facebook, on Wednesday announced its new feature aimed at disseminating local news to its users.
The new tool, called ‘Today In’, will show a feed of local events, announcements and news to the users. The users will get to go through local news on their go.
The company is currently testing the feature in 6 states of the US. News that is specific to the related communities and cities will be given in the user’s feed.
Facebook’s news partnership team will check the relevance of the news that goes on the feed.

The users in the batches in which the test is going on can access the icon on the bottom of the menu in their mobile app.
The project is a part of the company’s Journalism Project initiative, which was launched at the time of presidential elections in 2016, because it was facing inspection for fake news stories being published on the platform before the 2016 election.
The company will expand the ‘Today In’ feature in other cities too.
