Google on Wednesday announced two new features for iPhone users - Google Assistant and Google Lens. iPhone users can now utilise Google Assistant as a separate iOS app in order to handle complicated tasks. Although iPhone comes with Siri, Apple’s own digital assistant, Google Assistant is required to take care of more complicated tasks.
Features and characteristics of Google Assistant:
1. Users can make quick phone calls
2. Put any query to Google Assistant
3. One can use Google Maps instead of Apple Maps
4. Users have the facility to send emails, SMS and iMessages
5. You can also set reminders and calendar events with the help of Google Assistant
6. Play any sort of music on Spotify App
7. One can interact with Assistant as if having a conversation
However, Assistant can’t be accessed from the home button and neither can it set alarms. The Assistant debuted in 2016 on Google’s own hardware, and the company has gradually extended the tool to devices from other manufacturers running on its Android operating system.

As far as iPhone users are concerned, they now have the choice of using Siri, Google Assistant and Alexa. The iOS Google Assistant can be downloaded from the App store and offers a good challenge to Siri.
Earlier on Wednesday, Google CEO Sundar Pichai had explained the company's progress with the Google Assistant. He had also announced another feature called Google Lens which can recognise objects by simply pointing smartphone’s camera at them.
Google Lens is a powerful, AI-driven visual search app which can also enter wi-fi passwords simply by pointing the camera at the password text.
Google Lens is a set of vision-based computing capabilities that allows your smartphone to understand what's going on in a photo, video or live feed. For instance, if point your phone at a flower and Google Lens will tell you, on the screen, which type of flower it is; or, aim the camera at a restaurant sign to see reviews and other information pop up.

Another exceptional feature of Google Lens is the ability to point your phone at a router's setting sticker and have it automatically connect to that network. In conjunction with Assistant, Google Lens also allows users to point their phone at a sign for a concert and automatically add that event to their calendars, or even purchase tickets right then and there.
The Lens can also be integrated into Google Assistant. Through a new button in the Assistant app, users will be able to launch Lens and insert a photo into the conversation with the Assistant, where it can process the data the photo contains.
