A new feature has been added to Google maps that allow users to find wheelchair-accessible routes for traveling.

The new option which is available in six cities like London and New York, targets to make travel easier for people who need an accessible route on public transportation.

Google said: “We built this feature to make life easier for people who use wheelchairs, but accessible routes are also helpful if you’re on crutches or pushing a stroller. “We’re making progress toward a more accessible world for everyone.”

In addition, Google has been working to improve accessibility information in Google Maps while working with local guides. This involves information regarding accessible washrooms or free path around the major cities.

The new upgrade on accessible routes is available in six major cities, that is London, New York, Tokyo, Mexico City, Boston, and Sydney. Google also said that they are looking to work with other cities as they want to expand further and give the best experience to its user.

To get routes which are accessible:

  • Tap ‘Directions’
  • Select public transportation icon
  • Tap ‘Options’
  • Under the 'routes' section get ‘wheelchair accessible’ as new route type.
