California-based tech giant Apple on Monday announced new updates for its iMac desktop and MacBook laptop, most notably a new iMac Pro which has a 27-inch 5K screen and an optional 18-core processor.

Apple's new iMac Pro

California-based tech giant Apple on Monday announced new updates for its iMac desktop and MacBook laptop, most notably a new iMac Pro which comes with 27-inch 5K screen and an optional 18-core processor.

Apple announced these updates at WWDC 2017 on Monday with CEO Tim Cook's keynote address. The mega event was held at the McEnery Convention Center in San Jose, California.

Apple is promoting the new iMac Pro as its most powerful Mac computer ever. The new iMac Pro, comes with Space Gray colouring, and price starts at $4,999 and will be available in December.

iMac pro comes with 8-, 10-, or 18-core Xeon processors

27-inch 5K screen, optional 18-core processor

iMac Pro can accommodate an impressive amount of memory — up to 128GB.

16GB of VRAM (up to 11 teraflops of computing power, which may be needed for machine learning functions)

4 Thunderbolt ports (3 USB C ports)

Built in 10GB Ethernet

Real-time 3D rendering for virtual reality

iMac Pro can handle multiple streams of video. And with up to 4TB of all-flash storage, saving and loading humongous projects is all in a moment’s work. 

iMac Pro may rekindle Apple’s relationship with professional-level users dismayed by the relative lack of updates to its Mac Pro, which hasn't seen a notable upgrade since 2013.
