Popular social media websites Instagram, Facebook and Messenger crashed on Thursday evening in India and around the world. According to Down Detector, the issues started at around 14:15 GMT, and are affecting users across the UK.
The reason of the outage is still unknown and the users who were using Instagram reported issues where 74% said they had problems with the News feed, 14% with Stories, and 10% with the website.
The majority of users are reporting problems with their news feeds, while others are also experiencing problems logging into the app and accessing the Stories feature.
However, WhatsApp which is the other major part of Facebook did not appear to be affected by the outage. Meanwhile, some users is finally able to use Facebook while most of them are still facing trouble.
Recently, Facebook deleted 5.4 billion fake accounts already this year, in a sign of a persistent battle on social media against manipulation and disinformation. "We have improved our ability to detect and block attempts to create fake, abusive accounts," the internet firm said in its latest transparency report.
The social network has invested heavily in finding and taking down accounts crafted to deceive people about where information is originating, particular when spread as part of coordinated campaigns with political or social agendas.
