Instagram’s new ‘Recommended for You’ feature goes live

Instagram, the photo and video sharing network, has introduced a new feature on its platform which has garnered negativity from a lot of people already.

The new feature, called ‘Recommended for You’, has gone live on the Facebook-owned site.

The ‘Recommended for You’ option lets the users see recommendations on the basis of the posts liked by the accounts they follow.

Instagram explained, “These recommendations are based on “posts liked by accounts you follow. You can choose to temporarily hide Recommended for You posts.”

However, the new feature does not vary much from the old one. The only difference is that previously, the recommendations appeared in the ‘Explore’ section of the site while now, the recommended posts will be visible in one’s home feed.

The latest feature is considered a key change since the platform abandoned sequential feed in favour of Facebook-like process-based one or introduced advertisements.

The new ‘Recommended posts’ will not block the home feed or replace the existing posts, as per reports. It will appear after the user has watched all the posts in the feed.

The recent feature launched by Instagram was the ‘Follow Hashtags’, in which a user can follow any hashtag they want, just like on Twitter. Also, the users can check the hashtags their friends follow.
