Reliance Jio on Monday announced the launch of the Jio Rail app that will allow users to book train tickets through their smartphones. The app, which is also compatible to run on JioPhone and JioPhone2, integrates the online train ticketing services of Indian Rail Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC). Through the app, users would be able to book general and tatkal train tickets using debit, credit cards and digital wallets. The app will also allow users to cancel tickets, inquire about the seats, train schedules, and more.
With the Jio Rail app, the company is looking to eliminate the hassle of queuing up in a line at railway stations or the fees paid to the middlemen/ agents, the company said in a release.The Jio Rail app is now available to download via Jio App Store on both the Jio Phone and Jio Phone 2. In line with IRCTC guidelines, the tatkal booking time slots from 10 am to 12 pm will be applicable while using the Jio Rail app. Moreover, Indian Railways queries such as train details, seat availability, routes, and PNR services will also be accessible via the Jio Rail app. A user can sign in by entering the IRCTC account details or create a new account through the app. The app also plans to offer enhanced services like PNR status change alerts, locate train and food ordering in future.
Earlier this month, Reliance launched a handset dedicated for the world’s largest congregation of pilgrims and named it ‘Kumbh JioPhone’. The handset provides a power of digital services to those who cannot afford a smartphone. The handset also offers a suite of benefits which are especially designed as per the needs of the pilgrimage. The Jio Phone also recently received support for WhatsApp and YouTube to make it even easier for the users to get onboard with the popular services, usually found on smartphones.
