National Technology Day 2019: May 11 is celebrated as National Technology day across India. This day marks India’s technological advancements. On May 11, 1998, India successfully test fired the Shakti-I nuclear missile at the Indian Army's Pokhran Test Range in Rajasthan in an operation led by aerospace engineer and late President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam. India is now a part of international treaty signed by the US, Russia, the UK, France, and China which aims to prevent the spread of nuclear weapons and hopes to achieve nuclear disarmament.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi while congratulating nation on the National Technology Day tweeted, "Greetings on National Technology Day! We remember with immense pride the accomplishment of our scientists on this day in 1998. The hard work of our scientists has always ensured a stronger and safer India. May we continue leveraging the power of technology for national progress."
"The patriotism and farsightedness of Atal Ji and his team have a major role to play in the success of tests of 1998. Atal Ji’s unwavering faith in our scientists proved valuable during that crucial time. It also demonstrated the difference a strong political leadership makes,"he added.
Asking people to pledge the use of technology for betterment of society, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee tweeted: “Today is #NationalTechnologyDay. Let us pledge to use technology for the progress of society and welfare of people. Some people misuse technology to create divisions. We must refrain from such misuse (sic).†Â
