Do you use OnePlus phones? There is a piece of bad news for you all as the website of OnePlus was recently hacked and your data may have been exposed to the unauthorised party. Yes, you read it right. Chinese smartphone maker OnePlus has announced that their online store was accessed by an unauthorised party and some customer data was exposed.
In an official statement, OnePlus said that some of the users’ order information was accessed. The Chinese smartphone maker also confirmed that details such as passwords, payment information, and accounts are all safe. “Other information such as name, shipping address, phone number, and email address may have been exposed,” the company said.
Without providing a specific number, OnPlus said that certain accounts were exposed. The company also noted that the intruder was stopped and the security was beefed up. “It also sent emails to affected users and is currently working with the authorities to investigate the breach,” the smartphone maker added. It further warned affected users that they may receive phishing emails and other spam.
In an FAQ, OnePlus promised to improve the security of its online store and website. “OnePlus will team up with a world-renowned security platform and it would be starting a bug bounty program at the end of December,” the company said. It also stated that the website has been thoroughly inspected to make sure that no more security loopholes exist.
Back in January last year, a security breach had exposed the credit card details of about 40,000 customers.
