Redmi 8 has finally gone official in India. The key features on Redmi 8 include a waterdrop-style display notch, dual rear camera setup and a 5,000mAh battery, among others. On the competition front in India, the entry-level phone is up against Infinix S4. Redmi 8
Redmi 8 sports a 6.22-inch HD+ Dot Notch display with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection.
The smartphone supports dual-SIM (Nano) technology and runs Android 9 Pie with MIUI 10. Under the hood, there is an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 439 SoC, paired with 3GB or 4GB of RAM.
On the imaging front, Redmi 8 comes equipped with dual rear camera setup that houses a 12-megapixel Sony IMX363 primary sensor with an f/1.8 lens and a 2-megapixel depth sensor. For selfies, there is an 8-megapixel camera sensor at the front.The dual rear camera setup is preloaded AI Portrait and AI Scene Detection features. The phone is also touted to recognise 33 scene categories, including six India-specific categories. Also, there is an artificial intelligence (AI) powered features, including Face Unlock. Further, the phone has a fingerprint sensor at the back.
Redmi 8 has 64GB of onboard storage which is expandable via microSD card (up to 512GB) with a dedicated slot. Connectivity options on the phone include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi, GPS/ A-GPS, infrared, wireless FM radio, 3.5mm headphone jack, and a USB Type-C port.
The entry-level smartphone comes with a new Aura Mirror Design at the back. Redmi 8 packs a 5,000mAh battery that supports 18W fast charging.
The price for Redmi 8 in India has been set at Rs 7,999 for the 3GB RAM + 32GB storage variant. On the other hand, the 4GB RAM + 64GB storage variant of Redmi 8 costs Rs 8,999. However, for the first five million units, the device with 4GB RAM + 64GB storage variant will be available with an introductory price of Rs 7,999.
Redmi 8 will be made available in Oynx Black, Ruby Red and Sapphire Blue colour options. It also has a splash-resistant P2i coating on top.
The newly-launched smartphone will go on sale starting midnight on Saturday, October 12 via Mi.com, Mi Home stores and Flipkart.
Infinix S4
Infinix S4 features a 6.21-inch HD+ (720x1520 pixels) display with 19.5:9 aspect ratio, 89 percent screen ratio, and 2.5D curved glass display protection. It runs on Android Pie-based XOS 5.0.
The dual-SIM Infinix S4 is powered by the 2GHz MediaTek Helio P22 octa-core processor with up to 4GB RAM. Storage can be expanded further using a dedicated microSD card (up to 256GB).
On the imaging front, Infinix S4 comes equipped with a triple rear camera setup. It houses a primary 13-megapixel snapper with f/1.8 aperture, another 8-megapixel 120 degrees ultra-wide camera with f/2.2 aperture, and a last 2-megapixel camera. On the front, the smartphone houses 32-megapixel shooter.
The device measures 156x75x7.9mm and it weighs 155 grams. The smartphone packs a 4,000mAh battery.
Other connectivity options include Bluetooth v5, Micro-USB port, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, 3.5mm audio jack etc. Infinix S4 supports both Face Unlock and a rear fingerprint sensor.
Sensors on board include a G-sensor, proximity sensor, light sensor and compass.
The 3GB RAM + Infinix S4 32GB storage model in India costs Rs 7,999. Whereas, the price of 4GB RAM + 64GB storage variant of Infinix S4 has been set at Rs 10,999.
The smartphone is available in Nebula Blue, Twilight Purple and Space Grey colour options.
