Now, Reliance Jio Infocomm is planning to introduce affordable large-screen smartphones to target large customers who are looking to upgrade from a feature handset to a 4G handset.

Reliance Jio has transformed the telecom sector of India since its inception by introducing high speed data at economical rates. Later, the company also introduced a feature phone with some important apps including YouTube, WhatsApp and Facebook at a quite handy price. Now, Reliance Jio Infocomm is planning to introduce affordable large-screen smartphones to target large customers who are looking to upgrade from a feature handset to a 4G handset.

Sunil Dutt, Head Sales, Channel Development at Reliance Jio told Economics Times, “We are trying to work with partners who can bring in affordable large screen smartphones for a large mass of customers who are yet to make a shift to a 4G smartphone, so that they can experience the right kind of connectivity as well as the right kind of content on devices which are affordable. We will keep coming out with something new in every few months’’.

As per the report, Reliance Ji is in talks with US manufacturer Flex for producing 100 million smartphones to increase its market share.

“Wherever we feel there are gaps in the market which the people are not able to address or not able to take a risk about because they have their own priorities at times, those are the markets that we will then want to address. There are billions of people who are on devices which do not support good data experience or rich content experience, for them we introduced JioPhone to start experiencing more content services of Jio like television, cinema, music, even YouTube, Facebook and WhatsApp’’, Dutt added.

Mukesh Ambani owned Telco has been gaining subscriber market in the rural areas and tier-3 towns with 4G VoLTE, JioPhone.

Currently, Jio is already associated with several handset manufacturers including Samsung, Xiaomi, Oppo and Apple. The main target of Reliance Jio infocomm will be targeting the 500 million feature phone users who will upgrade to smartphone.

On specs front, JioPhone runs on KaiOS, and sports a 2.4-inch QVGA display. The phone comes with 512MB of RAM and 4GB of inbuilt storage. The internal storage is expandable via microSD card up to 128GB. The feature phone sports a 2-megapixel sensor at the back along with a VGA one at the front. Talking about the connectivity, Jio Phone 2 offers 4G VoLTE, VoWiFi, NFC, GPS, Bluetooth, and FM radio. It has a 2,000mAh battery under the hood.
