RIL chairman and managing director Mukesh Ambani on Monday announced that Reliance Jio Fiber services will be launched on September 5, 2019. It is to be noted that on September 5, Jio will celebrate its third anniversary.
The basic plan for Jio fiber services will start at 100 Mbps and will go up to 1 Gbps at the price ranging between Rs 700 to Rs 10,000 per month. Notably, the cheapest data plan is priced at Rs 700 a month and has speeds up to 100Mbps. On the other hand, the top-end plan comes at Rs 10,000 a month which also provides access to broadband, Jio HomeTV and Jio's IoT.
Speaking at the company's 42nd annual general meeting on August 12, Mukesh Ambani further said that voice calls from home will be free forever. The plan also features an unlimited international calling pack at Rs 500 per month, for fixed line services.
Ambani said, "ISD calling tariffs would be 1/5th to 1/10th of industry rates. We are offering unlimited US/Canada pack at Rs 500 per month."
In the meantime, Mukesh Ambani unveiled Jio Forever Plans under which users will get an HD or 4k LED television and 4k set-top box for free. "We are calling this the Jio Fiber Welcome Offer. I invite all of you to make the most of our Welcome Offer, and sign up for Jio Fiber as soon as it is available in your neighbourhood," he said.
It is worth mentioning here that complete tariff information would be available on September 5.
Jio Fiber plan will come bundled with subscriptions to most premium OTTs, which means customers will be able to watch movies the same day they are released, in their living rooms. The services features a wide range of applications, from digital TV to cloud gaming.
Ambani also talked about its mixed reality (MR) startup Tesseract. MR has many use cases including virtual shopping, education and movies. The Tesseract VR headset was also demoed. He also noted that Jio is signing up 10 million new customers every month. "The core and aggregation layers of our converge network are already 5G ready. Our wireless hardware is already 4G+ and can be upgraded to 5G," he added.
According to Mukesh Ambani, Jio Fiber's Preview service generated interest from 15 million people in 1,600 towns. He also stated that the services plans to reach more than 20 mill residences in 15 mill businesses in 1,600 towns. At least 5 lakh homes are on trial plans and each of these are using more than 100GB of data.
"US has average internet speeds of 90Mbps, our base plan offers a higher sp" said Ambani. “Jio's plan also involves tapping enterprise customers from businesses — both SMEs and big businesses. Jio Fiber will empower millions of small businesses with high-speed data,” Ambani said. "Jio Fiber will enable 2.4 mill SMBs with high-speed data connectivity," he concluded.
