Gadget freaks have all the reasons to go crazy this week as Chinese electronics and software company Xiaomi has added a pair of high end device in their much talked-about Redmi series yet again.

After a series of teasers and rumours the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus have finally been launched in China on Thursday. The latest budget smartphones have come up with a near bezel-less display as the company is gearing up to bring this year's trend to the low-end market.

Apart from this mouth-watering feature, the sport metal bodies with rounded corners, fingerprint sensors on the back, company's MIUI 9 software are among other flagship specs.

In a mega launch event the Chinese handset maker has expressed their gratitudes to Indian fans for their continuous support over the years. With the launch of these latest pocket-friendly gadget, the company has also promissed to continue its success across the world.

While both the devices are expected to be available in China from December 12, the smartphone maker has shared no word yet on when they will hit other countries including India.

Initially, the Redmi 5 is available at CNY 799 or approx Rs 7,800 (2GB + 16GB variant ) and CNY 899 or approx Rs 8,800 (for the 3GB + 32GB option) and customers are free to choose any of the colours among Black, Blue, Gold and Pink.

On the other hand, the Redmi 5 Plus is priced starting at CNY 999 (approx Rs 9,800) for the 3GB + 32GB model and CNY 1299 (approx Rs 12,700) for the 4GB + 64GB storage option and will be available in the same colours as the Redmi 5.

Xiaomi Redmi 5 specifications:

Xiaomi Redmi 5 comes with a 5.7-inch HD+ (720x1440) display with an 18:9 aspect ratio as the company aims to bring the bezel-less trend of 2017 to the budget segment. Both Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus highlight a symmetrical design with the rear camera and fingerprint sensor perfectly aligned on the back as well as with the microUSB port on the bottom. Users are also getting two speaker grills on either side of the charging port and the 3.5mm headphone jack can be found on the top.

The budget phone is powered by a 1.8GHz octa-core Snapdragon 450 SoC based on a 14nm FinFET technology and coupled with Adreno 506 GPU. The latest gadget will be available in a choice of 2G + 16GB and 3GB + 32GB configurations. The Redmi 5 runs on MIUI 9 based on Android 7.1 Nougat.

Optics for the Redmi 5 includes a 12-megapixel sensor on the back with 1.25 micron pixels for improved photography and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera with Beautify 3.0 and Soft-Toned selfie light for better selfies. The Redmi 5 is fitted with a 3300mAh battery, which promises up to 12 days of standby time.

Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus specifications:

According to the teasers and promo videos, the larger Redmi 5 Plus is expected to sport narrower bezels than the Redmi 5. As a Plus model, the handset is coming up with a 5.99-inch Full HD+ (1080x2160) display and 18:9 aspect ratio. It is also powered by an 2.0GHz octa-core Snapdragon 625 SoC coupled with Adreno 506 GPU. The Redmi 5 Plus will run on Android 7.1 Nougat with MIUI 9 on top.

Like the Redmi 5, the Redmi 5 Plus is also offering its users a 5-megapixel sensor up front with LED Flash and Beautify 3.0, while the rear sees a 12-megapixel sensor with LED Flash and f2.2 aperture. The device has a larger 4000mAh battery compared to the Redmi 5 and promises up to 17 days of standby time.
