Xiaomi India launched the Redmi 5 in the market on Wednesday with the price starting at Rs 7,999. The smartphone was unveiled in China in December last year, alongside the Redmi 5 Plus, which was launched in India last month as the Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 Pro.
The Xiaomi Redmi 5 will be exclusively available via Amazon India, apart from being available on Mi.com, Mi Home stores, and offline retail executives. The Redmi 5 sports a 5.7-inch HD+ display with 720X1440 pixel ratio and 18:9 aspect ratio, 282ppi pixel density, 450-nit peak brightness, 72 per cent NTSC colour gamut, and an eye protection mode.
Powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor with 450 SoC and 1.8GHz chipset, the Redmi 5 comes in three RAM options, 2 GB, 3 GB, and 4 GB.
On the camera front, the smartphone possesses a 12-mp rear camera lens with LED flash, and a 5-mp front camera with LED selfie light, which as per the company is the first for the Redmi series, Smart Beauty 3.0 app, and face recognition.
The Redmi 5 packs a battery of 3300 mAH which gives a full day’s backup according to Xiaomi. The smartphone comes in three internal storage options, one with 2 GB RAM and 16 GB internal memory, one with 3 GB RAM and 32 GB internal storage, and one with 4 GB RAM and 64 GB internal storage, all of which are expandable up to 256 GB via a microSD card.
The 2 GB RAM with 16 GB internal storage variant will be available for Rs 7,999, while the 3 GB RAM with 32 GB internal memory will be available for Rs 8,999, and the 4 GB RAM with 64 GB internal memory will come for Rs 10,999.
The smartphone will be available in four colour options, Black, Gold, Rose Gold, and Lake Blue. The Redmi 5 weights 157 grams and measures 151.8x72.8x7.7mm. The company has added the dual pyrolytic sheet technology to the smartphone for heat dissipation for extreme environmental conditions as per the Indian market.
The smartphone bears a fingerprint sensor on the rear panel, and also includes various other sensors like the accelerometer, ambient light sensor, gyroscope, and proximity sensor.
