Whether one strives for classroom lessons or craves for entertainment, YouTube becomes the primary option to access all of these. But there are occasions when the user may not have WiFi connectivity or data connection. What is to be done in that case? The ability to watch YouTube videos offline then is the most viable solution. Here’s how one can download YouTube videos and can have the full enjoyment.

The YouTube app for Android and iOS users gives the facility to download videos for offline viewing, provided the video is not private and the creator allows it. The video downloaded can only be watched in the YouTube app and cannot played using any other video player and is also not shareable as a file.


  1. Open YouTube app on your device, search the relevant video with proper keywords.
  2. After the app shows video results, tap on the three-dot symbol corresponding to the result (video).
  3. Tap on the Download button that pops up in the window and then select the video quality.
  4. After the quality is selected, the video will start downloading in the background.
  5. Once the download is complete, you’ll see a “View” button at the bottom.
  6. Tap on the “View” button and you’ll be directed to your offline YouTube downloads page in the app.


How to download YouTube videos using YouTube Go app-

    YouTube go app is less-data consuming version of the YouTube app and has been basically designed for low-end Android phones. It also allows users to download videos for offline viewing. Here are the steps to follow-

    1. Open the YouTube Go app on your device Search the relevant video.
    2. Tap on the relevant video. 
    3. Window with options like Data Saver, Standard Quality, and High-Quality options will open.
    4. Choose the video quality and press the blue Download button.
    5. Go back to the homepage to find the downloaded video.


      How to download YouTube videos using a website-

      Apart from YouTube official app and a less data hungry YouTube Go app, there are some websites like Save From Net and VDYouTube which can be used to download YouTube videos for offline viewing.



      1. Open YouTube on your browser and open the relevant video.
      2. Copy the video URL from the address bar at the top.
      3. Go to ‘VDYouTube’ website.
      4. Paste the video URL in the Search video or type URL search field.
      5. Tap on the green Go button to parse the video.
      6. After video is pulled up, scroll down and select the resolution to save the video locally.


        Save From Net

        1. Open YouTube on your browser and open the relevant video.
        2. Copy the video URL from the address bar at the top Go to ‘Save From Net’ website.
        3. Paste the video link in the Just insert a link box to parse the video.
        4. Select the video format and quality adjacent to the green Download button.
        5. Click on the Download button to save the YouTube video locally on your device.
