On January 15, 72nd Army Day will be celebrated. However, a two-day event ‘Know Your Army Mela 2020’ is being held at Campal Ground in Goa. During the event, activities like Army dog show, military and pipe band display, cultural Programme including Malkhamb and display of military equipment will be showcased for the public. Army Day is celebrated in recognition of Field Marshal Kodandera M Cariappa's taking over as the first Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army from General Sir Francis Butcher, the last British Commander-in-Chief of India, on January 15, 1949.
