The Union Cabinet is likely to consider a proposal on Tuesday to allocate funds for updating the National Population Register (NPR), an exercise which is to commence from April next year. The proposal is part of the agenda of the cabinet meeting. Under the NPR, a census will be conducted from house to house across the country from April 1, 2020 to September 30, 2020. Its aim is to create a database of the comprehensive identity of common residents of the country. This data will also contain biometric information along with demographics. However, Kerala and West Bengal have ordered a stay on all activities in connection with the NPR. Watch full bulletin.
