President Rule Imposed In Maharashtra As Political Stalemate Continues

President’s rule was imposed in Maharashtra on Tuesday evening amid a stalemate over government formation after the assembly polls last month. Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari made a recommendation to the effect, citing the inability of political parties to form a government. Koshyari’s recommendation came after NCP, which had been asked to produce proof of having the requisite numbers by Tuesday evening, sought two more days in the morning. Shiv Sena has termed the governor's decision as unconstitutional, unreasonable and mala fide.
