The passing of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill in Lok Sabha triggered massive protests in Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, and Tripura. The bill, which was tabled by Home Minister Amit Shah, was supported by JD(U), BJD, and Shiv Sena. The bill was passed by 311 votes.
