It's been a long time that self-styled godmen across India are playing with people’s believes and sentiments in the name of God. From Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh to Sant Rampal to Asaram Bapu, several self-styled godmen have attracted controversies in recent times. With Asaram Bapu being convicted by a Jodhpur court for the 2013 rape case, their crimes against society are in focus yet another time. Asaram was found guilty of raping a teenage girl in his ashram five years ago and was awarded lifetime imprisonment on Wednesday. After Ram Rahim Singh, this is the second case of a powerful spiritual leader being convicted of a sexual offence in less than a year.
