This nine-year-olds’ drawing envisioning a cure for Lyme disease is going viral on social media. Elizabeth Erickson of Roosevelt Elementary School made this drawing for a school exercise.
The exercise had each student illustrate their dream on a piece of paper with the words “I have a dream that ….” with instructions to write about and draw an aspiration.
Nine-year-old Elizabeth Erickson said she knew what dream she had to write about here. The girl wrote down her wish for a faster cure for Lyme and also depicted a woman who's heart turned from green to red when she took a curative pill.
After a few weeks, the girl brought her drawing home. Her mother Catherine Franklin said she was proud that her daughter chose an altruistic dream, but she was also saddened because it reminded her how much suffering Lyme disease has brought to her family.
As Franklin has chronic Lyme disease, she is still battling with debilitating fatigue, numbness and memory loss.
Her daughter has ‘had to really step up’ to help herself and the family, Franklin said. Elizabeth said she is proud of her mom. “She's a really good fighter,” she said.
Soon Franklin who works in marketing thought of sharing the drawing with a Facebook Lyme disease support group on Monday. The sooner, the better, the girls’ drawing got many shares on FB and it gained the most viewers on lymedisease.org's Facebook page, receiving hundreds of likes, comments and shares.
On Tuesday, “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” Yolanda Hadid Foster posted it on her Instagram and Twitter accounts with the message “Such a profound message and drawing from a young child.” The former model turned reality celebrity herself has Lyme disease.
Franklin said she's showing her daughter all the positive responses on social media, primarily from people who have the disease. The little kid’s drawing which has a positive message is now getting many likes for the empathy that the girl possess. May we all get her dream realized and get a Lyme free world.
