Images of a child rescued from a destroyed building post an air strike in the divided second city of Aleppo have sparked shock and outrage. The pictures and a video have been released by Syrian activists. The visuals show the child sitting in an ambulance with his bloodied face. The videos and pictures have gone viral on social media.

The child identified as 5-year-old Omran Daqneesh is being treated for head injuries. It is believed that his parents and three siblings have survived the attack.

Aleppo, once Syria's commercial and industrial hub has witnessed fighting between government and rebel forces, leaving hundreds dead.

According to pro-opposition Aleppo Media Centre, the pictures of Omran were taken in the rebel-held Qaterji district of Aleppo on Wednesday. The air strikes had left at least three people dead and 12 others injured.
