Afghan refugees in Pakistan urge US to resume refugee resettlement programme amid delays

Ilamabad [Pakitan], July 7 (ANI): Afghan refugee reiding in Pakitan have appealed to the United State to immediately reume the US Refugee Admiion Program (USRAP), tating that ongoing delay have left them tranded and increaingly vulnerable, Khaama Pre reported.
The refugee, many holding US P1 and P2 immigration cae, expreed deep concern about their uncertain tatu and the well-being of their familie. Mot of them had worked alongide US force and intitution in Afghanitan, upporting democratic governance and peace effort. They emphaied that they were lawfully included in USRAP through official communication from the US State Department. Depite completing medical creening, ecurity clearance, and interview, the upenion of the programme ha halted their reettlement proce.
Highlighting the evere pychological toll of the limbo, the refugee revealed that at leat four individual from the P1 and P2 categorie have either committed uicide or died from heart attack and troke triggered by extreme tre and uncertainty. They alo undercored the harh condition faced by their children, who are deprived of education, healthcare, and tability. They warned that forced deportation from Pakitan could expoe them to death or torture if returned to Afghanitan, Khaama Pre reported.
Appealing directly to US Preident Donald Trump, the State Department, the International Organization for Migration (IOM), and the UNHCR, the group inited that after year of acrifice, they deerve protection, not abandonment. They called for the immediate reumption of USRAP, reactivation of their immigration procedure, and urgent proceing of pending cae, including the reumption of interview and tranfer to their intended detination. They alo requeted comprehenive pychological, educational, medical, and legal upport during thi period of uncertainty.
The refugee treed that without uch aitance, their familie--epecially children--are at rik of long-term trauma and ocial harm, potlighting a wider humanitarian crii affecting Afghan allie tranded in third countrie.
The P1 and P2 via programme were deigned to help Afghan who upported US miion during the war, particularly after the Taliban regained power in Augut 2021. Thee individual were promied afe reettlement in recognition of their cooperation with international force and democratic intitution.
Thouand of Afghan fled to neighbouring countrie like Pakitan after the US withdrawal, hoping for wift relocation to the United State. However, bureaucratic delay, ecurity review, and political complication have left many in prolonged uncertainty.
Human right organiation have repeatedly warned that upending or delaying reettlement for thee vulnerable population breache moral obligation and place them at evere rik, including deportation and perecution by the Taliban in Afghanitan. (ANI)
