Masked attackers hurled three improvised bombs on Tuesday during a rally of opposition BNP for civic polls, injuring five people, including a journalist, in northwestern Bangladesh.

The attackers on three motorcycles hurled the bombs while Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s mayoral candidate Mosaddek Hossain Bulbul was campaigning for the Rajshahi city polls, the Dhaka Tribune reported.

The five injured, included a private TV channel’s correspondent, officials said.

Two of the injured are undergoing treatment at the Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.

BNP Chairperson’s Adviser and Former Rajshahi mayor Mizanur Rahman Minu alleged that the ruling Awami League’s activists were behind the attack. However, Awami League denied the allegation.

“Awami League does not carry out criminal activities like hurling bombs and arson attacks. We are not aware of the identity of the miscreants,” the party said.

The Rajshahi city polls are slated for July 30.
