Boycott Pakistan elections: Protests outside White House over atrocities against refugees by ISI

The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) on Sunday staged protests outside the White House in Washington DC over continues atrocities against refugees in Pakistan by the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).

Several members of the MQM held placards against the Pakistan Army and demanded to boycott the July 25 elections.  “Pakistan’s security forces are killers in uniforms,” one of the placards read.

General elections are scheduled to be held in Pakistan on July 10. The elections are marred by violence and atrocities against minorities and refugees. So far, more than 140 people have been killed in blasts at election rallies.

The Army and the ISI are two strong parties in Pakistan and have their influence over the government. The ISI and the Pakistani Army are often criticised for using uncontrolled force and violating rights.

The MQM is the only secular party of Pakistan which was founded by Altaf Hussain in 1984. Currently, the party is split between two factions, the MQM-London and the MQM-Pakistan. While the MQM-London is headed by Altaf Hussain, Farooq Sattar controls the MQM-Pakistan.
